China's New Policy: Buy a Car and Get License Plates on the Same Day

Today (23rd), the General Office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the General Office of the Ministry of Public Security jointly issued a notice. From now on, vehicle qualification certificate information will be shared in real time, enabling domestically produced small passenger cars to achieve "same-day purchase, same-day tax payment, and same-day license plate registration."

It is understood that the biggest change in this new model is the real-time sharing of vehicle qualification certificate information between the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Public Security, enabling data transmission in "seconds," further improving the efficiency of vehicle purchase and license plate registration.

A relevant official stated that besides enhancing data exchange efficiency between the two departments, this policy further expands the shared content and optimizes the sharing model for domestically produced small passenger cars. It provides enterprises with the option to upload through a unified interface. Enterprises can uniformly transmit qualification certificates and pre-inspection information to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which is then shared with the Ministry of Public Security, effectively improving data exchange efficiency. At the same time, the two departments have reduced the number of required vehicle standard photos and no longer require paper materials, lowering operational costs for enterprises. It is estimated that over 20 million vehicles will benefit from this convenience annually.

A relevant official from a domestic automaker told reporters that the technical parameters of qualification certificates have already achieved cross-departmental sharing, and enterprises only need to input vehicle technical parameters once. This time, the two departments have added the exchange of image information such as vehicle standard photos, further saving enterprises from preparing and transmitting a large amount of paper materials.
