Football Friendly Match Turns Violent: Adult Players Beat U16 Teenagers, Causing Fractures

Football Friendly Match Turns Violent: Adult Players Assault Teenagers, Sparking Outrage

On June 21, a friendly match between Hunan Zhangjiajie Football Team and Guangdong Mingtu Football U16 Youth Team in Guangzhou escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in multiple injuries. The most severely injured player was Zhang Haoye, a 14-year-old who had previously been selected for the Chinese U15 Men's Football Team, suffering a fractured finger. The incident quickly became a trending topic.

In response, the Zhangjiajie Football Association attributed the incident to "verbal disputes between players that escalated into physical conflict." However, Guangdong Mingtu Football Club explicitly stated that its youth players were maliciously assaulted. In a widely circulated video, the sight of adult players violently attacking underage players who had fallen to the ground was deeply alarming.

Guangdong Mingtu stated that it will pursue accountability through industry appeals and legal channels, declaring that it "will not accept any form of apology, mediation, or compromise." The Hunan Football Association responded overnight, suspending the involved individuals from all football activities within the province.

Youth players represent the future of a nation's football, and the U16 team falls under the category of minors. Those responsible for perpetrating violence that resulted in injuries to youth players must be identified and held accountable. It is hoped that such incidents will never happen again, allowing football to remain clean and dignified, thereby creating the conditions for progress on the field.
